Cancelling Your Driving Test Appointment

If you no longer need your UK driving test appointment, you must cancel it as soon as possible.

Cancelling in time can save you from losing your test fee.

How to Cancel Your Driving Test

You can cancel your test easily online using the official DVSA booking service.

The service is available daily from 6 am to 11:40 pm.

Manual Car

Notice Period for a Refund

To get a full refund, you must give enough notice:

  • Car driving tests: cancel at least 10 full working days in advance
  • Other tests (motorcycle, lorry, etc.): cancel at least 3 full working days in advance

Working days include Monday to Saturday. Sundays and public holidays do not count as working days.

If you cancel too late, your test fee will not be refunded unless you meet special criteria (see below).

What You’ll Need

To cancel your test, have the following ready:

  • Your UK driving licence number

One of the following:

  • Your driving test booking reference number
  • Your theory test pass certificate number (You can find your theory test number here if you’ve lost the original letter)

Cancelling at Short Notice? You Might Still Get a Refund

If you’re cancelling with less than the required notice, you may still be eligible for a refund if:

  • You’re ill or injured and unable to take the test
  • You’ve suffered a bereavement
  • You have a school or college exam at the same time
  • Your driving licence has been stolen

In these cases, email the DVSA at customerservices@dvsa.gov.uk with the subject: “Unavoidable short notice cancellation”.

And don’t forget to speak to your driving instructor or school to keep them updated or require any help.

Your email should include:

  • Your full name, address, postcode, and date of birth
  • At least two of the following:
  • Driving licence number
  • Theory test pass certificate number
  • Driving test booking reference

You also need to attach proof of your reason, such as:

  • A fit note or medical certificate from your doctor
  • A letter from your school or college
  • A crime reference number if your licence was stolen
